If you have wondered why your phone bill seems so high lately, then you might be the victim of some new marketing practices. These are sometimes the result of malicious activities of either companies or individuals, but often they are fully legal maneuvers designed to trap people who are not cautious about their expenses. Many unsuspecting people fall prey to these schemes and they frequently go by unnoticed.
One activity is called CRAMMING. If you have noticed any unexplained items on your phone bill, you could be the victim of cramming. Some tele-marketers may call and sell you a "service" such as voice mail, which will then be billed on your phone bill. You will be billed even if you do not use the service. Worst of all, you might be paying for these services for months until you discover it.
An other practice is called SLAMMING, which is changing your long distance carrier without your consent. While not as potentially costly as cramming, it can be a nuisance to change back to your preferred company, and you might lose any benefits from being a long-time customer.
