Never Give Up

Have you ever felt the urge to give up? Throw in the towel? Call it quits? If you're a leader in the business world, you know exactly what I'm talking about. You work hard and give it your best effort, but nothing seems to go your way. You feel the sting of each setback . . . disappointment with each defeat. You reckon it's a futile effort to continue, and all you want to do is pull the plug. When you taste the bitterness of failure, your natural reaction is to give up.

Perhaps you will be encouraged by this man who seemed to know failure all too well–yet he just kept trying:

• In 1831 he failed in business.
• In 1832 he was defeated for legislature
• In 1833 he failed in business again.
• In 1836 he suffered a nervous breakdown
• In 1838 he was defeated for speaker
• In 1840 he was defeated for elector
• In 1843 he was defeated for Congress
• In 1848 he was defeated for Congress again
• In 1855 he was defeated for Senate
• In 1856 he was defeated for vice-president
• In 1858 he was defeated for Senate again
• In 1860 he was elected President of the United States

The man? Abraham Lincoln . . . a champion who chose never to give up.

Failure is part of life and an essential learning tool. So don't give up! Stay committed and make the best of it. Remember these words of encouragement from the Bible: ". . . be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded." 2 Chron. 15:7
