The information age has brought with it not only a wealth of data and connectivity, it has also opened the floodgates of privacy. You need to be aware that your personal details are readily available on the Internet unless you block access to this information.
For example, if you enter your U.S. phone number in a Google search, it will reveal not only your name and address, it will conveniently take you to a map page showing exactly where you live! Go ahead--try it and see for yourself. This is called a reverse phone directory, and essentially allows anyone (including malicious perpetrators) to find out who you are and where you live, using nothing more than your home phone number. The only exception is for those whose numbers are unlisted.
While this appears to be a blatant invasion of privacy, nothing has been done about it yet, and in the meantime your personal contact details are exposed for the world to see.
The solution to this problem is to block access to your personal details. For Google, simply go to their site and find the link that allows you to block your details from being shared. But be aware that your details are still available in other places on the web.
